A Lesson Shared is a Lesson Learned

At SumAll we embrace quick fails, iterations and mentorship. Everyone working here has picked a mentor within the company to help them develop professionally. We wanted to extend this ethos for learning and exchanging valuable experiences beyond SumAll so we just had our first meetup of entrepreneurs, marketers, & kickstarters. We used eventbrite to test the waters of a customizable ticketing system, here was our invite.

Inviting The Community

To start, we invited a range of entrepreneurs that either just launched their product off of Kickstarter to entrepreneurs who have had an extremely successful presence in the e-commerce space by way of Shopify to the likes of Studio Neat and Pop Chart Lab. Our conversation revolved around e-commerce best practices and design executions that have led to increased conversions off their online shop.

Lessons Learned

A brief review of lessons learned from the meetup:
1 – Incentivized newsletter forms have lead to a significant increase in conversions. A fantastic execution by Eleanor's NYC.
2 – Making your shop’s layout responsive is extremely worthwhile as well, especially for shops like Pop Chart Lab which receives a significant amount of visits from iOS devices. See our post on getting started with responsive design.
3 – In re-targeting efforts, consider offering a free item instead of discount, some customers have explored this route with significant gains. Also ensure that there’s no dissonance with your ad and landing pages.
4 – Many more to list. You'll have to attend the next one in order to satisfy your hunger for all things entrepreneurial.
