Online Customers Hit The Beach And Switch Things Up In Summer

We've been doing some digging around here at SumAll HQ, and we've uncovered some really interesting data about how online customers behave when the summer months roll around. Our biggest takeaway: they act differently!

For those of you with seasonal businesses, this is something you already likely expect (there aren't too many folks buying snow boots round about now), but we were surprised to uncover that the behavior shifts actually apply to ALL types of businesses.

Some of our more interesting findings:

* Wednesday is the clear winner when it comes to measuring the highest revenue of the week. So in order to try to bump up spending on other days, store owners could try offering coupons for $10 that expire in 24 to 48 hours. Open Sky often does this and seems to have lots of success with it.

* Monday is on top as the day shoppers are most comfortable making big ticket item purchases and Friday is the day they are most likely to buy cheaper ones. This means you might want to try offering free shipping on Mondays for orders of $100+ in order to try to boost big ticket purchases even further.

* Unit sales are 52% higher on Friday than they are on Saturday! Wow! Don't run off for your weekend vacations too early as you might miss out on a Friday sales frenzy.

* Speaking of vacations, the best week to take one this summer is July 7th...after the rush of the July 4th holiday. Things pick up again toward the end of the summer as people pack up their vacation houses and get ready to go back to school...August 27th clocks in as the busiest week.

Armed with this information, you can change up your marketing, promos and advertising for the summer months and truly beat the heat!

Really interesting information. Quick question - is this data focussed on the US only, or does it include worldwide trends?

Hi CHICHIBox! This data comes from our own users, which is a sample size of 5,000 people. The majority of our users are based in the US but we have a lot of international users as well so this info could be applicable to worldwide trends.
