Pay Equity and Presidential Meetings

Fifty years ago today, President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law with hopes of closing the chasm in earnings between men and women. At that time, women earned 59 cents for every dollar men earned – today that gulf has slightly been shored up with women now making 77 cents for every dollar. But there's obviously still a lot more work to be done with President Obama stating in his speech today that he wants "every child to grow up knowing that a woman's hard work is valued and rewarded just as much as any man's."

Work transparency has been a core principle at SumAll since our inception. Broadcasting all employees' salaries and a flat hierarchy with every person's voice counting in pivotal business decisions were important tenets in making SumAll a progressive, inclusive workplace. When we received recognition early on for our efforts in promoting job equality, it was validating and we were heartened to see other companies follow suit.

Today, we're honored to be recognized (our CEO, Dane Atkinson, is the abnormally tall one in the back left) among so many progressive individuals who have fought to make workplaces innovative, stimulating, and, most of all, equal.
